Surface Preparation

The surface should be clean, free of dust and loose material. The background should be adequately dampened to reduce excessive suction. Dense impervious backgrounds that are not very absorbent require less dampening. Highly absorbent backgrounds will require more dampening to reduce suction and to prevent rapid drying.

Mixing/Water Addition

Each bag will require 4.2 – 4.5 litres of clean water to achieve a workable mix.

LIMCO Insulating Plaster can be mixed using a paddle mixer or mechanical whisk. First add 2/3rds of the total water into the mixing container followed by the Limco powder. Allow the mortar to mix until the water is thoroughly distributed. Mix for a minimum of 5 minutes adding additional water to achieve desired workability.

Application

Applied in coats of 25mm to a total depth of 50mm onto a prepared background. Each coat must be left with an open texture and be scratched to give a mechanical key before further coats are applied. A second coat maybe applied after the previous has adequately cured, usually 2-4 days. Dampen down between coats to reduce suction. Key the final coat whilst still green with a nail or devil float ready for the finish coat.

Curing

Prevent all coats from drying out too rapidly. Lightly spray each coat with water if it is hot or the product is drying out too quickly.

Temperatures: above 5oC and below 30oC.

Further coats: after 2 to 4 days, once the coat has stiffened/ hardened, but is still ‘green’.

Finish Coat

Finish internally with 3mm skim of Lime Centre Extra Fine Heritage Putty Plaster. Available in 25kg bags.
