On every course the participants are welcomed with coffee
and, after an introductory talk by Bob Bennett, there is a demonstration of
slaking burnt lime to produce lime putty. The remainder of the day is spent
gaining practical experience in preparing lime mortar, laying brick and flint,
making a limewash and building in chalk cob. Any special interest, such as
wattle and daub repair, for example, can be blended into the course to the
benefit of all. Limited numbers ensure a pleasantly informal day with plenty
of individual tuition using the range of tools and conservation materials
available. Sitting down to a home-cooked lunch and a glass of wine gives an
opportunity for informal discussion and exchange of ideas.

Bob Bennett frequently takes the course 'on the road', both
in the U.K. and overseas, giving the opportunity for larger groups to receive
practical tuition on their own site or premises. Materials for sale from The
Lime Centre include mature, fine-sieved lime putty, natural hydraulic limes,
ready-mixed lime mortars, plasters, renders and washes. Consultancy and a
mortar analysis service is also available. Literature and a programme of forthcoming
courses are available from:
